Encinitas General Facts

The towns of Encinitas, Cardiff-by-the-Sea, Leucadia and Olivenhain banded together and incorporated in 1986. The towns still retain much of their individual identities.
     Leucadia tends to have narrow streets and cottages with ocean view homes. In Cardiff, the lots are smaller and the coastal bluffs of Leucadia are gone.
     The coast area is funky with many retirees and artists living in the old homes. Many of the homes are ripe for re-modeling.
     Moving east, inland, the city rises into hills studded with ocean-view homes. Further east is the newer, suburban part of Encinitas where the homes are larger.  On the very eastern edge of the city, the housing eases off into large lots and horse country.

RECREATION

There's lots to do in Encinitas. The city has eleven parks, ten public beaches, trails, Boys and Girls Clubs, YMCA, a skateboard park, Little League, soccer and a city sports program for kids and adults. The city is host to a botanical garden and a marine life refuge. A public 18-hole golf course is being built.
     Encinitas, the flower capitol of the world, celebrates Spring with a two-day street fair on the second weekend of April. In July and August, weekly Concerts by the Sea are held on Moonlight Beach.

BUSINESS

Encinitas has a good employment base: about 20,000 jobs. The commute to San Diego is 22 to 26 miles. Rush hour traffic is a bear. The local train, the Coaster, stops in Encinitas. Tourism is a factor.
