Solana Beach General Facts

Solana Beach real estate is pretty pricey, compared to many other parts of San Diego County. The average home price last year was $1,330,980 and the median home price was $1,160,000. For up-to-date real estate statistics and trend charts visit our Market Trends Report.

Solana Beach is a small, upscale city tucked between Encinitas and Del Mar. It is bounded by the Pacific on the west, a country club with golf course on the east, lagoon regional park on the north and Del Mar Racetrack on the south.

Solana Beach, like many of the coastal cities, is a mix of the old and the new. The old is, typically, on the coast while the newer section is to the east of Interstate 5. Over 70% of Solana Beach was built in the last twenty years. Much of the city's homes are new.

The main part of town is a mix of antique shops, galleries, restaurants, hotels, resorts and apartments. There is more shopping near the freeway.

The homes in the old part of town are a mix of old and remodeled. Many have ocean views. East of Interstate 5 is the Lomas Santa Fe golf course and the newer homes, some very expensive.

The 1990 Census shows an average commute time of 21 minutes. As the distance to San Diego is 21 miles, this suggests many residents may be working in nearby La Jolla or Sorrento Valley. The commuter train station is in the center of Solana Beach on Lomas Santa Fe and 101.

BUSINESS

The Solana Beach School District is the biggest employer with 320. Jenny Craig has its headquarters here and employs 213.
